Sindh writes to suspend cellular services on 9, 10 Muharram

The Sindh Interior Department sent a letter to the Ministry of the Interior to suspend the mobile phone service on 9 and 10 Muharram al-Haram on the Sindh processional roads, including Karachi.

According to the details, the Sindh government has recommended that the Ministry of the Interior suspend mobile services on January 9 and 10 in Muharram because of Muharram-ul-Haram's security concerns, and said that the mobile service should be suspended along the path of mourning processions.

Strict security measures were taken because of Muharram al-Haram and the Sindh government also banned the motorcycle traffic of motorcyclists on the 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram al-Haram.

Sindh's Interior Minister wrote to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) about the suspension of mobile phone services during the mourning processions of Muharramul Haram, as a measure of precaution to maintain public order and to avoid any incidents of sabotage or terrorism.

Earlier, Dr. Kaleem Imam of IG Sindh informed the Chief Minister, Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, of foolproof security provisions during the majalis and processions of Muharramul Haram.

In his presentation, IG Sindh said that the processional movement would be monitored by CCTV cameras from the control and command center and that there would also be CCTV vans to cover the procession.

The meeting was informed that, from Muharram 1 to 10, there would be 6028 majalis in the city that would be guarded by 1073 policemen.

He added that in the event of an incident, the scene isolation team, the team for the arrest of the disbelievers / accused and the evacuation teams were formed.

The chief minister has approved the ban on ridding the pounders of the night of 8 Moharram. He ordered that the IG Police begin to check quickly throughout Sind.
